Bounce Dating Awkwardness

Post by bluewaterlily Sun Sep 02, 2007 9:08 pm

Alright, here's the situation:
I just transferred to public school. I met a guy whom I have not seen since kindergarten. He and I were buddies back then, but that was 10 years ago and, obviously, things change. He wants to ask me out. I really am not in the mood, since I'm busy with band and adjusting to a new school. Also, I really don't like him that much anymore. He's also friends with one of my best (female) friends, who thinks that I should go out with him. I think not (and my parents agree) However, I don't want to hurt his feelings, so how do I respectfully tell him "no"?

Just tell him nows not the time, your still trying to get yourself orginized, and you arent positive you like him that way yet, and to give you a bit to mull it over.

Just tell him that you're not ready to date anyone yet. Then make sure you tell him why so he doesn't think you just don't want to date HIM (even if that's the case). I don't want to date anyone right now, either, and so that's what I do. I tell the guys that I don't want to date right now and then I tell them why. The reason I don't want to date is because I don't want to give my heart out to a bunch of different guys before I get married. I also don't feel that I need to date right now. If a guy really likes me, he'll wait for me.

So there's my advice. Hope it helps. Smile

basicly what everyone else said. Just explain to him that you really arent looking for the kind of....friendship. And that now would not be the time. Its very difficult to say no. But truthfully, I think alot of guys take it better from just one word, "no". lol. Just from what I have seen. I hope I helped Alanna!

Good luckw with it! =]

And you slapped him across the face and threw him out a window?

Yeah, I've done that. All the guy wanted was a tissue, though.

Well, I sent him a note that said I already knew that he wanted to ask me out and my answer to that was a simple "no". Yes, I know note-sending isn't good in these kinds of situations, but I'm more tongue-tied than most in real life, so writing's easier. He got it. Now, he apparently wants one of my friends to make me like him, or something along those lines, which is both impossible and just plain immature. If he brings it up again, I'm just going to say "no" until he bugs off.

Neh...I'm going to have to disagree with nearly everything said so far. I personally would much rather be told "no." than to be told "...maybe some time in the future". The worst thing a guy can possibly hear (even worse than being rejected) is "I think of you more of a friend..." or that you're too good of friends, so I'd say never take that route. I think if you just tell him that you don't like him that way, instead of leading him on by saying "I'm really busy right now but maybe sometime..." it would be a lot easier for both of you. Good luck with everything.

Us guys are like that. We will stalk you absurdly for all your teen years, go to all the Cafes you go to, all the parks, we will be staring at you through your window, we will go to the same college as you, with the same classes, and we will constantly break into your dorm room when you're not there to smell are your belongings.

And that's when we're normal. Shocked
