The PPSH-41 was QUITE effective. In Fact German Wehrmacht would sometimes used captured PPSH's in street fighting due to their effectiveness.

Mosin Nagant Despite its ledgend in the cold of Stalingrad wasnt very reliable. If you kept it clean and took care of it it did its job well.

The Sturmgeweher44 was not produced enough to be an effective rifle. This is was mainly the Fault of Hitler not wanting to aprove it at first.

I do think about mechanical physics a lot, though. Having nightmares about it...=P.
